Lust Ceaselessly Circles Her Tank (PeerGynt Lobogris, Spain) 3:51

Virgin Sharks: home page AmazonKobo

Throughout Virgin Sharks, lurking behind Rani’s story is the story of Lust, a great white shark born at the Toronto Zoo along with one sister, Pride.

Of course, those aren’t their real names.  Officially the zoo staff named them Carmen and Miranda, but the nicknames, taken from the list of seven deadly sins, stuck.

Like Rani, Lust was born to a mother who was in captivity, without any exposure to males. Unlike with Shaila and Rani, this is a real phenomenon in sharks, called parthenogenesis.  You can see some videos on the topic in the video library on the book’s home page.

This track is intended to conjure up an image of Lust, circling her tank in constant motion.

The stunning video below captures the idea nicely (although with a larger community of creatures, including sharks).  This is the second largest aquarium tank in the world at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan in a video by Jon Rawlinson.
